Frequently Asked Questions

What is Occupational Therapy and how can it help me better manage my chronic illness?

Occupational therapy is a holistic, client centered profession that takes into consideration all parts of a person. Occupational therapists focus on your physical well being as well as your mental well being while also taking into consideration your environments, roles, and habits.

Check out more information from the American Occupational Therapy Association about Occupational Therapy’s role in Chronic Pain Management and Chronic Illness Management.

What kinds of people do you work with?

We work with people who have experienced any form of chronic illness but specialize in working with people who have challenges with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Long COVID, and other chronic pain conditions.

Occupational Therapy can be supportive to most people who feel they are not able to engage in meaningful activities and ready to make a change. If you do not see a specific challenge you face, reach out to schedule a consultation to see if Take Shape Occupational Therapy is a good fit for you!

What kind of goals can I work on in Occupational Therapy?

Because we are client centered you pick the goals that motivate you! Potential goals may include: sleep hygiene, energy conservation, communication with support systems, advocating at the doctors, leisure, social activities, stress management, and many more!

Where will I meet with my Occupational Therapist?

All sessions will take place via Telehealth on a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform. Due to Occupational Therapy state licensure guidelines you must be in California to receive services with Take Shape Occupational Therapy.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently an out-of-network provider at this time. I accept credit/debit cards as well as health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA).

If you are interested in submitting for a reimbursement through your insurance company, I am happy to provide you the documentation needed. However, please contact your insurance company prior to scheduling to get more information on out of network costs and reimbursement rates so there will be no surprises.

As of January 2022 the No Surprise Act now requires out-of-network providers to provide an estimate of direct costs. If you would like a “good faith estimate” of treatment, please email me and I will do my best to provide you with the most accurate information.
